It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through the year. You know how it is, those shiny New Year’s resolutions start to feel like a distant memory by now, yet I feel like it’s the perfect time for a little mid-year reset.
This year, I’m determined to focus my energy on health and positive habits that make me feel good. On this journey to self betterment, I’ve figured out some changes that will be crucial to implement in the coming year. Some might be easier said then done but I’m focused on getting my life off track.

1. Focusing on Connection, Not Comparison
If there’s one thing I’ve learned this year, it’s that comparing myself to others just never feels good. Social media makes everything and everyone’s life look good. And it makes it way too easy to compare lives.
Instead, I’ve been focusing on bettering myself and building genuine connections with the people around me. Whether it’s deepening friendships, making time for family, or even starting new conversations; real relationships are what I’m putting my energy into.
Studies show that strong social connections can actually reduce the risk of early death by up to 50%. And I’ll be honest, the more I focus on real connections, the less I feel the need to compare myself to others.
2. Setting Realistic Boundaries for Work and Personal Life
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realised how crucial work-life balance is. I used to work late all the time, thinking that if I didn’t keep pushing, I’d fall behind. But it wasn’t sustainable. So, I made a decision: no emails after 6 p.m. and no working weekends, unless it’s an absolute emergency. I was amazed at how much this simple change helped me recharge and refocus.
It’s all about setting boundaries that protect your time and energy. When I’m working, I’m fully focused, and when I’m not, I’m really not. Trust me, it makes a huge difference.
3. Eating with Intent, Not Perfection
As you hit your 30’s, there is a shift in your metabolism, hormones and general health. Our bodies can no longer process complex foods like it used to when we were younger. We all get caught up in trying to eat well. But this year, I’m saying goodbye to the guilt. I’m focusing on not just eating healthy but also eating more nutritious food.
The quality of food, the balance between carbs, proteins and fats, eating gut healthy and well cooked home meals are just some of my strategies. I’m not stressing about every little calorie. I still enjoy the foods I love, but without obsessing over calories or the perfect meal plan.
It’s all about balance. Not perfection. And honestly, it’s made me feel so much more relaxed around food. I’ve noticed a visible change not just in my energy levels but also helps me keep my skin looking youthful.
4. Embracing Mindful Movement
I’ve swapped out intense gym sessions for something more manageable. With age I’ve become more mindful about my movements. Switching to yoga, stretching, and walking has been a positive change.
For years, I thought I had to do an hour of cardio or lift weights to get results. But now, I’ve realised that just some exercise and movement is good enough. A daily stretch or a walk around the neighbourhood is more than enough to keep my body feeling strong and flexible.
It’s not about hitting a specific goal anymore; it’s about how I feel. And I’m noticing with a few small changes how much more at ease my body feels. Plus, taking those little moments for myself gives me a much-needed mental break.
5. Listening to My Body
This one’s been a big learning curve for me. Work stressors have been constantly causing pain in my neck and back. And I’ve come to realise ignoring it every time isn’t the smart move. Nearly 35% of UK adults experience regular musculoskeletal pain.
As time passes, the tension in my muscles, neck and back aches are becoming normal. I’ve always been the type to push through when I’m in pain, always thinking it’ll go away. But when it doesn’t, I reach out to Dr. Jake at the The Neuro-Muscular Clinic and he helped me with the pain.
Now, if I feel tension in my body, I don’t just ignore it anymore. I give myself permission to rest or get the help I need before it gets worse
6. Practicing Regular Digital Detox
This one was more difficult to implement than any other and I’m still struggling with it. I used to be on my phone mindlessly scrolling, checking emails, responding to messages. It was exhausting. So, now, I try to take at least one day a week to leave my phone in another room. No checking emails, no scrolling through social media. I just focus on the present, whether I’m catching up with a friend or just enjoying some quiet time.
Taking a step back from technology has given me a new sense of clarity. I feel more focused and grounded without my phone constantly demanding my attention.
7. Prioritising Sleep Over Social Media
We’ve all been there, you’re lying in bed, phone in hand, just one more scroll before you sleep. But I’ve started putting my phone away at least 30 minutes before bed, and it’s been amazing. Instead of scrolling, I now wind down with a book or some relaxing music. This small change has improved my sleep quality so much. 52% of UK adults say their sleep quality is impacted by screen time.
I wake up feeling more rested, and I’ve got so much more energy throughout the day. It’s wild how much of a difference this small habit makes.
8. Decluttering My Space (and My Mind)
Let’s be honest, we all have things we hold onto “just in case”. But I’ve learned that clutter doesn’t just take up space, it clutters the mind too. So, I’ve been clearing things out. Whether it’s old clothes, papers, or even digital files, I’m focusing on keeping only what I truly need or love.
A tidy space equals a tidy mind. I feel so much more relaxed and at peace in my surroundings.
Conclusion
With these simple habits, I’m able to make small, sustainable changes and make my everyday life a little bit easier and a lot more balanced. If you’re looking for a reset, I’d say start with the habits that resonate with you and make this your healthiest year.
